I am thinking of you SF.
No we no longer go to the KH we moved 150 miles away earlier this year to get away from the "hounding".
Good luck.

Welcome, this is my first day as a poster too!!
I, too, married a JW though he has always been disillusioned about the whole thing but has a very domineering mother who kept pushing him to go to his local KH despite leaving home when he was 25 which was 2 hours away from where he lived.
I look forward to reading more of your posts and wish you well - you will need to have patience.

when i first started attending the kh i remember being shocked by some of the lyrics to the songs.
i remember there was one we sang said something like "no-one likes us, we don't care" - someone said it was like a millwall supporters song!
however, cannot remember which song it was, does anyone remember this one?.
That's it! It is not only the horrible lyrics that stuck in my mind but the music wasn't much better. In our KG it was a recording of someone playing the piano badly, bum notes and all! You would have thought because it was a recording they would redo it until they got it right unlike live music.
Another thing that shocked me, now I am casting my mind back, is that the speaker on the platform was preaching unkind things about other religions, boy did that shock me. To me being a Christian was about looking for the best in people and even though we are all entitled to have our own views about other people and their beliefs some in a position of responsibility on the platform should certainly not be saying such things to vulnerable people. Surely they should be concentrating on the good things in the bible. Why attempt to take the speck out of someone else's eye when they is a huge plank in your own?
Having been to many different churches during my life prior to the KH I can honestly say that other religions don't do this. OK so there is no perfect religion but at least the others don't bad mouth. They also don't stop you from attending funerals, weddings or any other kind of service in other churches. They have nothing to fear. You only go if you want to go - no forcing.
Also the JWs used to preach lies about other religions, one example saying no-one else knows God's name apart from them.
I attended a funeral in December 2009 where not only did we sing a hymn with Jehovah in it but the preacher also mentioned him by name in the talk. I often used to wonder where they got their inaccurate information from.
I have to say, though, that the JWs have completely put me off organised religion.

You're right, I remember in one of the talks someone saying that the fact people don't like us means we are doing something right! What sort of logic is that?

date : 20.03.07. foster mother eunice spry has been found guilty of subjecting children in her care to two decades of horrific abuse.. the 62-year-old, from tewkesbury, beat them, fed them rat droppings, stopped them sleeping and rubbed their faces with sandpaper.
she thrust sticks down their throats when they misbehaved and made them eat dog food.. one daughter was forced to use a wheelchair for four years even though she was perfectly able to walk.. doctors, teachers and neighbours raised constant concerns about spry's treatment of the children but nothing was ever done by social services.. the catalogue of abuse only came to light when one of the children went to the jehovah's witness elders at the church the family attended.. spry, from tewkesbury, was found guilty of 26 charges of cruelty after a three week trial at bristol crown court.
It's good to know that there are some decent Elders around who aren't afraid to speak up for what's right.
I think there are plenty more who would like to but are scared of the consequences.
One in a congregation near where we used to attend spoke up about a paedophile in the congregation, just so that parents of children were aware. He and his wife were disfellowshipped and the paedophile moved to another congregation.
Whilst I believe in forgiveness and so forth nevertheless if known paedophiles are attending a KH surely precautions should be taken with regard to children and no way should he go out on FS. Otherwise (my opinion only) does this not make the KH an attractive place for a paedophile to be?
It's a sad fact of life that paedophiles exist everywhere and to the victim the devastation is the same whatever background the paedophile may come from. However, one has to remember that parents teach their children to be wary of strangers etc. but everyone's guard is down if, say, someone is a JH or a person in a respected position and therefore this gives them more scope.
Also, I think it is difficult to quite believe that some actually is one when you have known them for a long time and is a "pillar of the community".
One of my brothers knew someone who has been convicted of such and he said you would have just never have known that he was capable of such a vile act.

Firstly, hi to everyone I am new to this site, got my login this morning though I have been looking at the site for more than a week.
This particular case interested me since I have also read the biographies of two of the children involved.
One thing I do remember though, I cannot see that anyone has mentioned it in this particular thread, is that I read a lot of the news stories online and at the end of them there is provision for people to post comments. I remember distinctly reading of a comment made by a woman who used to attend the congregation that Eunice & family attended. She said that she had noticed abuse some years before this case was reported and told the elders who covered it all up and did nothing more about it.
Obviously though it was the elders who eventually did do something about it though many years after she first reported it.
She summed up by saying that she is no longer attends the Kingdom Hall as she was so disgusted.
I will search the net and if I can find this I will post it for everyone.
Happy Saturday!
